Wide Choice of Wide Format at PacPrint 09
PacPrint 09 might be seen as a show for conventional printers but, according to organisers and exhibitors, there will also be a wide range of solutions and ideas on display for the wide format market at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre from 26-30 May.
Anitech’s display will be headed by the new KIP Colour 80, the world’s first wide-format multifunction toner system. This LED monochrome and full-colour A0 format printer is perfect for low cost, high volume output, making it ideal for businesses that need to copy scan and print posters, advertising, point of sale, plans or a range of technical designs or documents. It is fast, with output speeds of up to 210sqm per hour at 600dpi – or a full A0 page in full colour in 17 seconds – and versatile, with a choice of paper stocks from 80 to 135gsm.
PacPrint will give Australia its first look at the Agfa :Anapurna range, released last year at drupa and voted ‘Best Flatbed Printer Entry Level of the Year 2009’ by the European Digital Press Association.
Agfa Graphics will demonstrate the new :Anapurna range – specifically, the :Anapurna XL2, Mv and M4F models – which provide an affordable and versatile solution for a range of wide format applications.
Agfa’s Garry Muratore says the :Anapurna range, available in flatbed or roll-to-roll models, uses UV ink based solutions which deliver superior jetability, image quality and adhesion to a wide variety of industry-standard media.
“The :Anapurna range has been developed to meet the most demanding applications, and offers unique features such as the ability to add spot or overall varnish, to enhance and add further value to finished products,” he says.
Starleaton will also be demonstrating an :Anapurna M, following the recent announcement of its partnership agreement with Agfa to distribute the range of printers and associated consumables in Australia from March.
The company will also exhibit a range of other solutions including the Epsom GS6000, HP Z6100 and a range of Seal laminators, providing a complete solution. And, as the company’s director Gary Smith points out, “with the Government’s 30% capital investment allowance running until June 30, there has never been a better time to upgrade.”
EFI will be demonstrating its Superwide Format – VUTEk QS2000 UV-curing digital inkjet printer which offers four- and six-colour imaging with a special seventh white ink channel. This two metre printer has a production output of 74 m2ph on both flexible and rigid substrates at resolutions of up to 1080dpi.
EFI will also introduce some brand new options in the VUTEk range at PacPrint. Although too new to be available for display, they will give visitors plenty to talk about with options including a 3.2-meter hybrid VUTEk GS3200 with superior image quality and speeds up to 223 m2ph, and the 5-metre roll-to-roll VUTEk GS5000r with an unique combination of enhanced Point-of-Purchase (POP) quality capability with excellent billboard production speeds up to 288 m2ph.
The Fuji Xerox, Fujifilm and Fujifilm Sericol "Connect with Opportunity" stand is another must-see, featuring solutions including Fujifilm Sericol's ValueJet 1604W1 digital dye sublimation printer and the and the TexJet 1604 digital direct to fabric inkjet printing system, both of which will be demonstrated throughout the show.
The ValueJet 1604W1 will use Fujifilm Sericol’s J-Eco Subly Nano Inks and Jetcol digital transfer papers to demonstrate superior transfer yields, vivid saturated colours and excellent image definition after heat transfer, while the TexJet 1604 provides an environmentally friendly, soft signage alternative to traditional solvent based technologies. It uses J-Eco Print Nano inks to deliver strong, vibrant prints on satin, matt and double-sided polyester fabrics.
Concern for the environment is also evident in the Celmac display, which Marketing Manager Andrew Wells says will showcase a range of industry-leading wide-format machinery and consumables from Roland, HP, Kodak, MACtac, Ilford and Triangle and others.
“We will demonstrate a range of solutions which will help businesses address the important issue of sustainability by taking positive measures, as we are at Celmac, to use and supply products which that are more ecologically friendly for our planet,” Wells says.
In today’s challenging economic climate, productivity and efficiency are also key issues. EskoArtwork will present a range of new products to help businesses meet market demand and succeed in these challenging times, by extending productivity and efficiencies.
The new Kongsberk –iXL series of digital cutting tables is one of those solutions. Able to meet the most demanding packaging, POP and display requirements, it will handle a combination of corrugated boards and other rigid materials and is designed for continuous, high speed manufacture, increasing production capacity and providing fast, accurate and highly reliable solutions for short-runs.
Another company offering something different from the more well-known wide format inkjet offerings is Roland DG, which will be demonstrating its new, 30” (760mm) wide LEC-300 UV printer, which delivers high quality photographic print in resolutions up to 1440dpi and offers several new and unique functions.
The machine can be roll or sheet fed, and the flexibility of the company’s new EcoUV inks means it can print to a wide range of substrates from traditional paper, card, film, PVC, PE, PET and BOPP to fabrics, leather, magnetic and more. Its print options are equally versatile – as well as CMYK, the LEC-300 offers high-density white simultaneous with CMYK or as a separate process, while clear options include spot matt and gloss, plus the exciting new ‘3D’ mode which creates an emboss effect, even to the point of emulating a raised or vacuum formed plastic insert or overlay for proof of concept or specialised short run applications.
The LEC-300 is supported by many popular RIP applications and can be fully integrated into a JDF workflow – at PacPrint, it will be will be demonstrated with the VersaWorks v3 server edition RIP.
